Hi,

habe das mit dem Bios-Update von Picard gerade mal ausprobiert.
Erstmal: @picard: Gute Arbeit!!! Vielen Dank.

und: Es scheint zu funktionieren. Zwar habe ich bisher nur ca. 4 mal neu gestartet, aber bisher hat sich der "tolle" grüne Bildschirm nicht mehr gezeigt.
Ich werde in den nächten Tage (und vielen Neustarts) nochmal posten, ob es auf dauer funktioniert, aber wie es bisher aussieht.... :-)

Nochmals vielen Dank an picard für die Arbeit. (Ob es nun geht oder nicht, das Bios-Update funktioniert einwandfrei!!)

Hi all,

First of all sorry for replying in english, my german isn't all that good these days.

I recently installed Vista Home Premium on my 8101 and got the same screen issue, that you've been experiencing. I'm also pretty convinced that the Video BIOS is the issue, since i've tried all the combinations of drivers that there are.

The answer that SGE500 got from Acer Support is garbage, since they state on their site that they DO support Vista upgrades (http://support.acer-...l#_Toc153873070)

So we should get them to realise their mistake and actually update the BIOS for our PATA version of the 8100 as well. After all, it's only slightly older than the SATA.

Therefore, i've started a thread at notebookforums (http://www.notebookf...ost2578680.html) that details the issue, this thread and Picard's solution (thank you for your effort, Picard - hope this is ok?)

Weird. This is the only place i've been able to find anything about it - and i've tried everywhere in both english, spanish and danish...

Hi zusammen,

hatte auch ähnliche Probleme mit einem MSI-Board:

Folgendes half:

Trotz dessen, dass kein Diskettenlaufwerk bei mir an Bord ist, wurde dieses bei meiner Ultimate im Arbeitsplatz angezeigt! (obwohl im Bios auch >None< angezeigt wird)

Habe daraufhin mehrere Bios-Optionen durchprobiert, nachdem ich Festplatte, Speicher und dergleichen als Fehlerursache hatte ausschliessen können.

Sucht (falls vorhanden) den FDC-Controller (Floppycontroller)und deaktiviert diesen!

Bei mir unter: >integrated peripherals -> SuperIO Device<

Nachdem ich das gemacht hatte, rannte der Installationsvorgang nur so durch und Vista hing nicht mehr bei der Installation fest!

Do you have the 8101 with SATA (...does that even exist?) Does it have a plastic or an aluminium lid (alu is the newer SATA version)?

How did you flash it? When i try with WinPhlash in Vista it goes bluescreen when trying to flash the new BIOS (after saving the backup of the old BIOS). Did you do it in command line or with a boot disk?

... And most importantly - does the green screen thing still happen after the update?

Again, sorry for the english - i know this is a german-language forum.. Blame the danish school system..

I do understand you all on a 90% level, so i will understand replies in german..

no i have ide hdd with have a plastic lid and 80 gb hdd.
i flash it with WinPhlash but start the programm as administartor with full rights on vista business system.
no problems .
but in my bios nothing changend really i think.

And most importantly - does the green screen thing still happen after the update.
yes. i have only one green screen and the pc booting faster.
im testing the system now for some days.
i´m reporting....
i make a call to the stupid acer support.
thay say no support to vista..........no bios....

... Grund war aber nicht das BIOS Updates ;-)

Hi all,

First of all - Picard - your frankenstein BIOS worked! I flashed it from a DOS bootdisk and it updated the Graphics Card part of the BIOS (last digits from .000 to .015) - Since then I havent had a single green screen! So the new BIOS for the SATA 8100s definitely contains a fix for that weird problem! Thank you so much, I was just about to restore my XP backup and give up on Vista - which would have been a shame, since it really runs great! Superfetch is awesome with 2 GB ram - Photoshop CS2 starts up in 3-4 seconds! Outlook 2007 in 1!

Thank you very much Picard. I will repost if i find any issues, but so far its been smooth! I have rebooted maybe 7-8 times without the green screen. Normally I would get it 3 times before the actual bootscreen would come up.

So I can recommend it (...at your own risk, though - BIOS flashing is serious stuff!)

I think you should try to flash your BIOS from a DOS boot disk with Phlash16.exe and the BIOS file on it - I found out that Winphlash never finished flashing in Vista - as soon as it came to actually replacing the BIOS, the system would go bluescreen as a protection mechanism! So its likely that the BIOS actually hasnt been flashed at all - have you checked in BIOS setup? I would not use the 3F07 BIOS, btw. Check this thread: http://www.notebookf...read154826.html. Picards BIOS worked for me.

Hallo alle "Green-Screen"-Geplagten.

Zu allererst ein GANZ-FETTES Dankeschön an DaPicard für sein Frankenstein-BIOS. Hat sich bei mir auf meinem 8101 ohne SATA flashen lassen und scheint, zumindest bis jetzt, reibungslos zu funktionieren. Kein Green-Screen mehr gehabt.
Zu den ganzen wilden Thesen wer denn nun der Verursacher des Screens ist muss ich ganz klar sagen, dass daran Acer und/oder die Hardware-Hersteller der Grafikkarte schuld sind!!!
Habe den Green-Screen-Fehler seit ich das Notebook besitze. Habe damals das XP Home gegen XP Pro ausgetauscht und irgendwann mal beim Einrichten des Notebooks mit anschließendem Neustart einen Green-Screen erhalten, EINMALIG. Danach kam der nie wieder. Zur damaligen Zeit gab es noch kein Vista!
Durch Vista kam es lediglich so, dass dieser Fehler fast bei jedem 2. Booten aufgetreten ist.
Warum ich aber behaupte, dass es nicht an Windows liegt ist ganz einfach: Einmal beim booten ist es mir passiert, dass der Green-Screen bereits beim Acer-Bootscreen aufgetreten ist, da konnte Windows noch gar nichts machen.
Also ==>> EINDEUTIGER FEHLER VON ACER UND/ODER HARDWARE-HERSTELLER/N

P.S.: Man sollte den Ausdruck Green-Screen sichern lassen, kommt ja öfter vor als der Blue-Screen!!!
