Never before have we seen so much anticipation and buzz surrounding a release of PerfectDisk. Why? Mainly because Microsoft didn't change the file system, but with Vista, it is very clear that the need for efficient defragmentation has become even more of a critical issue. More so than with XP, Vista’s built-in defragger has major limitations, including its use of a multi-pass defrag engine and its very limited flexibility in scheduling when and how often it runs. The comment that we received most often from our beta testers was that, unlike XP, the free Vista free defragger's GUI no longer tells you how badly fragmented your drive actually is. I guess the thought was that what you don't know, won't hurt you. In the case of Vista, that couldn't be farther from the truth.
