Ich muss/möchte nächtse Woche in Englisch ein 5-15 minütiges Referat über Silicon Valley halten, um zu den Halbjahreszeugnissen noch die nächst bessere Note zu bekommen.

Ich erzähle euch erstmal, was ich mir vorgestellt habe über Silicon Valley zu referieren.

1. Wo liegt es überhaupt?
2. Was ist es und wie kam es zu seinem Namen?
3. Verwechslung mit Silikon-Tal.
4. Was ist Hard-, Software? (Anschaungsmaterial, Mainboard, CD und Diskette wird durch die Reihen gegeben *g*)
5. Kurzer geschichtlicher Abriss.
6. Welche großen Konzerne sind dort angesiedelt?
7. Wo auf der Welt wurde versucht, das Konzept zu kopieren?

Kommen wir nun dazu wo ich mir Hilfe erhoffe. ^^
Zu Punkt 1 habe ich bereits fleißig gegoogelt, aber keine Karte gefunden, die das Gebiet direkt markiert, diese möchte ich aber kopieren und ebenfalls durch die Klasse reichen.
Fallen euch noch irgentwelche Punkte? Soll ich welche weglassen? Soll ich sie anders ordnen?

PS: Es steht euch natürlich frei einen der Punkte für mich zu bearbeiten, auch wenn das nicht Ziel des Threads seien sollte.

BTW: Vielleicht hat einer ja schonmal ein Referat über SV gehalten und könnte mir seines als Referenz geben.

So da bin ich wieder ^^
@ FF1980 Danke, aber bei Wikipedia habe ich natürlich zu aller erst geguckt.
Mittlerweile habe ich von ichbines schon genug deutsche Referate per e-mail bekommen, also hier auch nochmal ein big THX.

Um mein Referat perfekt abrunden zu können fehlen mir jetzt nur noch nach wie vor ein englischer Text (der von wikipedia ist nicht schlecht, aber ziemlich knapp) und ebend eine Karte wo Silicon Valley deutlich erkennbar ist.

So ich bin jetzt fertig und muss nur noch die den anderen unbekannte Vokabeln raussuchen und dann denke ich, dass ich so weit fertig bin.

Würde sich einer vielleicht die Mühe machen meinen Text sowohl auf seine inhaltliche, als auch auf seine gramatische Korrektheit zu überprüfen? Danke!

You can say that Silicon Valley area is the capital city of Computer and high-tech industry. At first only Computer hardware were produced there, but than software, too. For the people, who do not know, what hard- or software is, I have taken some examples to school.
Silicon Valley is only a nickname for the southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area in northern California, USA, originally referring to the concentration of silicon chip innovators and manufacturers, but eventually becoming a metaphor for the entire concentration of high tech businesses.

The term “Silicon Valley” was coined by journalist Don C. Hoeffler in 1971. Silicon refers to the high concentration computer related industries, which uses and needs silicon as one of the base material. Valley refers to the Santa Clara Valley. The term may also be applied to surrounding areas on both sides of San Francisco Bay into which many of these industries have expanded. For many years in the 1970s and 1980s it was also incorrectly called Silicone Valley, mostly by journalists, before the name became commonplace in American culture.

The History of Silicon Valley

In 1935 San Jose was the capital city of Santa Clara Counts and still an agriculture country city. There were a number of excellent schools in the area, graduating students almost always moved east to find work. This was particularly annoying to Frederick Terman, a professor at Stanford University. He decided that a vast area of unused Stanford land was perfect for real-estate development, and set up a program to encourage students to stay in the area by finding them venture capital. One of the major success stories of the program was that it convinced two students to stay in the area, William Hewlett and David Packard. Hewlett-Packard would go on to be one of the first "high tech" firms in the area that was not directly related to NASA or the US Navy. That was the beginning of the “Story of Success”. After the invention of the transistor and the connected new boom the area grown fast. It still grows very fast today. Many different big companies were built in Silicon Valley, for example AMD, INTEL, IBM, Sun Microsystems, Google, EA, APPLE and of course MICROSOFT. Today a lot of millionaires live in the area, who earned their money with computers.

Many different countries have tried to copy the story of success, but only with tempered success. In dependence on this, they often use a term with Silicon like Silicon Sentier – France or Silicon Saxony in Germany.

But Silicon Valley has its shady sides, too.
While typically lauded as the engine of the high-tech global economy and a generator of wealth for millions, Silicon Valley is also home to some of the most toxic industries in the nation, and perhaps the world. Next to the nuclear industry, the production of electronics and computer components contaminates the air, land, water, and human bodies with a nearly unrivalled intensity.

The Valley is also a site of extreme social inequality. It is home to more millionaires per capita then anywhere else in the United States, yet the area has also experienced some of the greatest declines in wages for working-class residents of any city in the nation. Homes are bought and sold for millions of dollars each day, yet thousands of fully employed residents live in homeless shelters in San Jose, the self-proclaimed "Capitol of Silicon Valley". Silicon Valley also leads the nation in the numbers of temporary workers per capita and in workforce gender inequities. Moreover, the region has an entirely non-unionised workforce and is as racially segregated as the biggest urban centres.
