Servuz,

After experimenting on VMWare, I've finally found a solution to the problems, if anyone else has the same problem, follow these instructions:
BEFORE you install MCE, on any computer (probably has to be an XP computer), download SP2 from Microsoft, once downloaded run the setup and it will extract the files to a location on your program file drive (probably C:\) in a folder named something similar to "ac25985c3374b66000ed8b81" but do not run or close the setup, burn the folder i386 to a CD, then close the SP2 setup wizard.
Once done, install MCE on the computer entering discs 1 and 2. Once XP asks for the SP2 disc, enter the custom SP2 CD (the standard CD distributed by Microsoft will not work), you may be asked for several files, they ARE on the disc, but the file extensions are slightly different so you have to tell the computer where the relevent files are;
iexplore.ex_ is in the i386 folder (named iexplore.exe)
hscsp_w3.cab is in the i386/ip folder (named hscsp_w3.ca_)
Oobeddisc.htm is in the i386/new folder (named Oobeddisc.ht_)
Once done the installer will then ask you to put in CD1 of CP MCE and continue the setup.
After setup is complete you should have a functioning media centre with services and IE running correctly.
