Unter www.virtualearth.com sollen die User noch im Juli hochauflösende Satellitenbilder der Erde anschauen können. Microsoft zufolge Können die Anwender nach Geschäften, Restaurants oder Tankstellen suchen, die auf der Karte angezeigt werden. Ein rund 30-minütiges Microsoft-Video, das die Features von "MSN Virtual Earth" zeigt, steht zum Download bereit.
Im Gegensatz zu den Microsoft-Plänen, steht die Freeware "Google Earth" bereits seit einiger Zeit zum Download bereit. Die Software bietet Satelliten- und Luftaufnahmen und liefert zusammen mit Erhebungsdaten und Overlayinformationen von Städten 3D-Karten von vielen Bereichen der Erde. (Textquelle CHIP)
