Maybe you lost your official MCE remote, or well...you didn't get one for some reason?

...My suggestion for you is to do what I did. Go find yourself an ATI Remote Wonder remote. It installs in seconds and will do every function that needs to be done in MCE by default. No programming required. Also, it has an advantage over the MCE Remote: It operates off of RADIO frequency. This allows it to work through walls, and practically anywhere up to 50 feet away. One of these will only run you about $30 without a box (bulk bundle edition, available various places including E-Bay).

To get her running smoothly:
1. Install the Remote Wonder 1.1 drivers from the ATI site. (You can find them...It's easy.)
2. Install the Remote Wonder 1.2 driver update from the ATI site.
3. Restart the computer.
4. Plug in your Remote.
5. Bring up the configuration for the remote thru the tray icon.
6. Go to the 'Program' tab.
7. Add an 'Open Windows Program...' event to the A button. Choose '%WINDIR%\EHOME\ESHELL.EXE'. Also choose MAXIMIZED from the drop menu.
8. Add a 'Keystroke' event to the B button. Choose 'ALT+TAB.'
9. Add a 'Keystroke' event to the C button. Choose 'BACKSPACE.'
8. Go to the 'Options' tab.
9. Consider unchecking the 'Show Icon in System Tray' item. It's pretty useless and it's cleaner without it.

Now, you use all of the remotes standard features to control everything. the C button functions as the BACK button. The B button is used to switch tasks running in Windows. Say that you are running MCE fullscreen from 15 feet away and someone sends you an instant message, dropping MCE down to Window mode, and making the IM window active. You can easily switch back to the MCE window and then press the Maximize button on the remote. The A button launches the Media Center in Full Screen Mode.
