Ich habe nun meine FreeSwitch Maschine (Debian in Hyper-V Core) zum Master Browser gemacht.
Also extra Samba installiert und richtig Konfiguriert. Macht dort am meisten Sinn da die
Telefonanlage ja immer läuft.

Nun möchte ich das eine Windows das fast auch immer an ist als backup browser einrichten.

MaintainServerList ist soweit klar:
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Browser\Parameters\MaintainServerList

Yes: Specifies that the computer becomes a master or backup browser.
The machine acts as a browser server and participates in browser
server elections. It attempts to contact the master browser to
get a current browse list. If it cannot find the master browser,
it forces an election and is, of course, a candidate to become the master.

No: Specifies that the computer cannot become a master or backup browser.
Instructs the machine to participate as a nonbrowser server but
announces itself to the segment master browser.

Auto: Specifies that the computer can become a master or backup browser
if needed—that is, if there is no master browser on the subnet or there
are not enough master browsers on the subnet. This is the default value.

Wie hängt das aber nun mit dem "Computer Browser" Dienst zusammen?
Maintains an updated list of computers on the network and supplies this list to
computers designated as browsers. If this service is stopped, this list will not
be updated or maintained. If this service is disabled, any services that
explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

Ist dieser Dienst nur dafür da falls der Rechner als Master fungieren soll?
Stelle ich den Dienst auf "Automatic" oder "Manual" auf dem backup Rechner?

Wie sieht es auf allen anderen Rechnern aus?
Trifft "announces itself to the segment master browser" noch zu wenn MaintainServerList auf "No" steht?

EDIT:
Soeben in den weiten Tiefen von TechNet bei Windows 2000 gefunden:
On any computer with the value of MaintainServerList set to Yes or Auto,
the browser service starts when the computer is booted.

Also auch ohne "Computer Browser" Dienst kündigt sich ein Rechner wohl beim Master an.
Teste das grade. Dauert meinen Recherchen nach aber 3x 12 Minuten

So, es funktioniert. Keine Hänger mehr wenn man im Explorer das Netzwerk aufruft.

Samba (Debian inHyper-V Core) dient als Master Browser (smb.conf):
