Hi

I was referred to win futures isobuilder. On the main screen at the top is says start chose folder or drive.

second it says : service pack integration and third: convert recovery disc. so I click on convert recovery and I get the screen that says the following:

1: windows version on your recovery disk with a drop down menu.

2: windows xp recovery partition on your hard drive

3: i386 folder on your harddrive

so for number {1} I pick xpsp2

for number {2} I point to the recovery disc in cd/dvd e:

for number {3.} where do I point it? do I point it to my win i386 folder on drive c: ?

I am sure that in your regular forum it is all explained, but i do not speak germnan and I am lucky I can speak english : )

thanks

Mark

Hello Mark,

although I have never converted a recovery partition to a bootable XP disk, I try to answer your questions:
1: Ok
2: you should give the path to the recovery partition on your hard drive (not on your optical drive) and
3: Yes.

The XP Isobuilder option at the start page of the tool is not intended for the XP installation from a recovery version, but for the creation of a full XP CD from the recovery partition of your hard drive.

Regards
Fernando

Fernando,

after I select the recovery partition D and move down to " i386 folder on your hard drive" following your direction, I get this message..." " confirm folder replace...etc" it is prompting me to replace my i386 files in " c:\ windows\i386"... for a program like this I am surprized that there is not enough to explain its use... there must be something wrong as it should not want to replace my i386 folder.

Hello Mark,
isn't the text on the right side of the "Convert a Recovery CD" clear enough?

This is the way how I understand the procedure to convert a Recovery CD to a full Windows XP CD:
1. Enter the Windows XP version of your Recovery CD (use the drop down menue of point 1)
2. Create a new folder on your hard disk and copy the content of your Recovery CD into this folder. Enter the path to this folder of your hard disk (with the content of the Recovery CD) into the box of point 2.
3. Enter the path to the i386 folder of your installed Recovery version into the box of point 3 (or let it search for such folder automaticly).
4. After having done all that you can hit the "Start" button.

At the end of the processing you should get the content of a full XP version (this doesn't work with all Recovery CD versions). You will find the folders and files of the full XP version within the folder you have entered at point 2.

Zitat

there must be something wrong as it should not want to replace my i386 folder.
Your current i386 folder will not be replaced, but just copied into the folder, where you get the full XP version.
